So what should we wear for outdoor running in winter? Winter training is very important for serious runners. The cold and snowy weather in winter plays a very good role in enhancing our running ability, core strength, physical perception and even willpower.

1) Layered dressing tops

Undoubtedly, we need to keep warm for running in winter. And it is verified that layered dressing is the best way. We can divide the dressing into three layers:

a) The inner layer is the sweat-absorbing and quick-drying layer, which is responsible for removing sweat from the body during running. It can be tights, compression clothes or running T-shirts in summer.

b) The middle layer is a warm layer, which is moderately loose. If the temperature is suitable, it can also be a long-sleeved running jacket with good air permeability.

c) The outer layer is windproof layer, which is used to resist cold air. We can choose windbreaker or single-layer jacket according to the temperature. Generally, we can wear two layers above MINUS 10 degrees, and three layers below MINUS 10 degrees. In short, no matter how you wear it, you should avoid 100% cotton clothes.

2) Bottoms

Leg muscles are relatively developed, and it is the main part of exertion when running, so generally, the legs don’t need to keep out the cold like the upper body. Usually, a pair of quick-drying pants or tight pants or compressed pants is enough. When the weather is particularly cold, consider wearing two layers, the inner layer is tight compressed pants and the outer layer is running pants.

3) Cold-proof Accessories

In fact, caps and gloves are essential in winter. They mainly protect our ears and hands. These two parts are far from the heart, and their blood supply ability is not so strong, so they are often frostbitten. In addition, you can also wear a headscarf. If it is not cold, you can put it on your wrist to wipe sweat. If it is cold, you can put it on your neck, or cover your nose and mouth to act as a face towel.

4) Shoes and socks

In summer, we usually choose light running shoes with better air permeability, but in winter, we need to buy thicker running socks and a pair of running shoes suitable for autumn and winter. Some brands will specially develop shoes for autumn and winter. When it rains or snows, we can also choose to wear cross-country running shoes with waterproof function for training.

Now you must have the answer to the question “what should we wear for outdoor running in winter?”
